Baptism, Thanksgiving & Blessing

The birth of a child is a wonderful gift and a special time. St Luke’s Church wants to help parents to celebrate this very significant time in their lives.

Bringing a child for baptism (also called Christening) is one option which we warmly welcome. The Baptism Service is very special and marks an important moment in the child’s as well as the parents’ and their families’ life. You will want to think about God-parents for your child – people who will be part of the child’s life and can help them grow as part of God’s family. We want to help parents make the most of this occasion so please talk with us before you make any firm plans.

Baptism is not for everyone, so we offer two alternative services. Firstly, Thanksgiving for A Child is a lovely church service that can be done as an occasion in its own right or as part of a normal Sunday service. You may have God-parents in mind (sponsors as they are known in this service). The service is a wonderful way of saying ‘Thank you, God’ for our child.

Secondly, we offer a ‘Blessing for a New-born Child’. This is a service that is normally done as part of a celebration or party at home or at a public venue rather than in church. The Blessing is perhaps a formal start to a party to welcome your child into your family.

Bereavement

If you have recently been bereaved, we at St Luke’s would like to offer our sincere sympathy and condolences at this sad and difficult time in your life.

We want you to know that we are here to help you in any way that we can. Perhaps you would like someone to visit you, or maybe in time you would like to meet some other people over a cup of coffee, or you would like to try one of our services.

We do hope that you find this helpful. If you need help or support, or if you would like some more information about any of these services, please do not hesitate to phone the church administrator (Gill) or the Associate Minister (David) on 01727 865399.
